Does linking still work?

Simple answer to this question is - yes! Linking still does work.

There is a lot of information surrounding linking strategies and sometimes it can be difficult to know what works these days and what doesn’t. So based on my own observations and testing this is how I have found it to work for me.

Anchor text. If you are placing a link on another site then the one thing that will be of the utmost importance is the anchor text. Period. Always try and put in an anchor text being the keyword you are trying to rank for in the link.

Variety. Also try and use variations of the anchor text in the link. For example for you are trying to rank for blue widget in canada, then you might do something like this. Big Blue widget found in canada or Blue widgets or blue widget in toronto. Well you get the jest.

Updated Comments In Google

One thing that I have noticed over the last couple of days is the power of forums/ blogs. I have noticed a single blog post consistently rank number one for a given term over an entire week.

So what’s unusual about that? The unusual part, is that the result in Google keeps getting refreshed. So although it is the same page in Google’s search results, Google actually serves it up almost as if it was a brand new post, and what we already know about brand new posts is that it ranks fairly high in Google for a day or two then drops down in the search results and settles into find it’s relevant position a week or two later.

But what appears to be happening is that people comment on the post which Google seems to love and as a result the post becomes more relevant and current in Googles eyes therefore it constantly ranks high without losing its position in Google.

Is Google Indexing Slowing Down Over The Feastive Season

Seems that Googles indexing has slowed down considerably over the last month. I have heard of people who used to get indexed at sub 10 seconds not being indexed at all.

However, my view is that Google goes through a number of system upgrades and “dances” all the while clipping and pruning spam from their system and as such one will find their page rankings change on a daily basis on or at all.

Having said that I have noticed that a number of pages indexed 3 or 4 months ago are holding their rankings in the search engines extremely well.

So my view on the matter is don’t worry about it. Have Xmas and new years off and then get back into it after that, hopefully by then Google would have sorted a few things out.

Learnt A New Backlinking Technique Today

While scavenging the internet for backlinking methods and tools I came across a most interesting way of getting backlinks to your new website automatically . It also appears that you will get an unlimited number of backlinks to any website and or webpage of your choosing.

Okay so it works on the theory of populating scraper websites or MFA (made for adsense) websites with your link. It does it by providing a fake xml or rss feed to the RSS agregators which in turn populates blackhat scraper sites when they come scraping content…where this still happens or not is anyone’s guess,  but anyway.

Right now I have written a script that will do exactly that and now I’m gonna sit back and see what happens…if anything. You see I have tried a similar method to this in the past and … well - nothing much happened.

Also another thing, the source of where I got the theory from was published like 2 years ago, which in this fast changing online environment, is the equivalent to 10 normal years. Which means it might not work anymore.

Anyways, I’m gonna let it run for at least a week and hope it doesn’t break things and then I will put it in my calendar to check on the results.

Googles been back again.

Unfortunately the last update I did was to my wordpress permalinks changing the format from /%postname%/ to /%category%/postname%/ which has caused a number of problems with my webpages listed in google.

As it turns out my webpage went from having 162 pages to 545 pages indexed in Google within the past 2 weeks. which on analysis looks like Google has re-indexed my pages thinking I have new content, but in fact it doesn’t.

Rankings should hopefully, go back up as the pages are recognized again and backlinks from authority sites take hold.
