Afghanistan Suicide Bomber Kills 11
frankls KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) - At least 11 people, including a U.S. soldier, were killed Thursday when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive in a crowded market in eastern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said.
Afghan authorities and U.S. officials offered information in the immediate aftermath of the attack in the province of Jalalabad.
The first U.S. military said 20 civilians were killed, but later that toll lowered to 10. Fifty-eight other people - all civilians - were wounded, the military said.
A spokesman added that the figures could change as the investigation into the explosion continued.
The military said a suicide bomber entered the market and detonated a bomb. In Jalalabad, police officer said the bomber broke his car into a military convoy of the United States, while the spokesman for the provincial governor said the explosion resulted from a car bomb.
The attack took place in the town of Bati Kot, just outside Jalalabad, capital of Nangarhar province.
