I made some changes to the permalinks in my wordpress settings and low and behold big Google gave me the big “Smack Down”. Lost all my rankings again in Google because of it.
Looks like Google is having to re-establish the url addresses, because after doing a site search in Google it shows that a lot of my pages have been updated 12 to 17 hours ago; pages that I haven’t touched in months and months. The only change is the url. Why did I change the url? Good question. It was because a so called SEO “Guru” said that it was conducive to good Google rankings. Which worked the oppose for me. Anyhoo, to be fair I think he ment to make these sort of changes when you first set up your wordpress blog.
So does this mean that big Google has to re-evaluate each page again? Possibly, given the location to the information has changed. I’m pretty sure though that Googles Algorythm is smart enough to know what has actually transpired here and that my rankings will return to normal soon. Soon is sometimes not nearly soon enough aye.

Forty seven year old Susan Boyle has done it again! She has won the hearts of the British public, becoming the viewers choice in a telephone poll which means it shoots her through to the finale.
Her 2nd performance was a little shaky in the beginning, however she did well to overcome her nerves, sailing through with another heart felt inspirational song “Memory” from the hit musical “Cats”.
Not sure thought about the makeover, albeit a slight makeover. As she walked out onto the stage, she looked a little frumpy – cute, but frumpy. It could have been the hair, I don’t know, can’t put my finger on it. Half of the reason Susan Boyle was standing on the stage the second time was because of the way she looks. She has an unassuming “farmers wife” look, which added to the appeal of her character. Any, effort to try and change her look may damage the way viewers see her. Although, it wasn’t apparent in the voting. But then again nor was Michael Jackson slow transformation either and look what happened to him.
Anyway, I have finished ranting on that.
Anyone who can capture the hearts and votes of millions of people in 1 minute and 30 seconds is a star in my eyes. And just remember were have really only seen her sing two times now. With the constant bombardment of television, video and the Internet it is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish real life from that which has been manufactured.

By all accounts, it looked as though Adam Lambert was happy that Kris Allen had won. In fact it almost looked as if he was happier than Kris was. Kris was a little dumbfound, and after his obvious shell shock he graciously accepted the American verdict.
After the initial fall out of a shocking win, the internet seemed to be littered with Adam Lambert supporters, myself included. However, what gets me is that if there were so many pro Adam Lambert supporters why oh why did the votes not reflect this. Conspiracy?
Lambert was the obvious winner to me, having said that, Kris is just a pawn in the whole thing. So all you Kris haters – STOP IT.
Apparently the winner of American Idol has to fulfill a 4 year contract and has to be marketed by American Idol, meaning that they lose autonomy, which in Kris’s case might be a good thing. Adam on the other hand is already a star and will thrive – I think – being left to his own devices. American Idol has been a great platform in exposing Adams talents on the world, and remember 2nd place winners do just as good if not better than the winner.
Not long after the finale, Queen had been in contact with Adam, and rumor has it that discussions are underway. I think that Adam should go solo – he doesn’t need Queen.
So I think that Adams reaction and happiness for Kris was real and that he got the better end of the deal!
Kara DioGuardi, put her name to the latest American Idol finale song – big mistake! That was one of the worst songs I have ever heard sung. Remembering of course that the singers are some of the best America has to offer, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen never had a chance.
Even good singers need to sing well composed songs to make them work. I mean put a microphone in Adams hands and you are almost guaranteed a top seller. But alas, even he struggled to find himself in this song. A point proven when only 10 minutes after he sing KISS’s song and hits it out of the park. He almost hits Kris out of the park as well. I say only, because I think Kris is a good bloke.
Kara what were you thinking? I mean good golly miss molly! If nothing else the “key” the song was played in should have been lowered at least. Even my cat has a better screech.
Anyway, I’m finished with this rant!
Yep, it’s all over. The finale of American Idol just hit our screens here in little old New Zealand and what a finale it was. Filled with controversy in my opinion and one of them being whether or not the incident between Kara and Bikini girl was staged, because if you ask me all the others were. The others being Norman Gentle and the laughing girl Tatiana – now I know that’s not how you spell her name, but who cares. Let’s just call her laughing girl.
Anyway, rumor has it that, it wasn’t staged and that a lot of it was a surprise, which I tend to concur, because the look on Bikini girls face just said it all. Priceless is an understatement. If it was staged I really don’t know how he could have faked that face.
In my opinion it had to be done. Kara did an excellent job with the song, albeit it was a little pitchy in places dog, but she made it her own and stuck it to Bikini girl. Long live Bikini girl she pretty cool – makes me laugh.
One of the many advantages of paying for traffic is that you don’t have to worry about Search Engines and their algorithms. Meaning you are not subjected to changes that can see you rankings disappear from the serps over night, and if you have all of your “eggs” in one basket like a lot of people do, then basically your screwed!
Having said that, there is a fundamental cost when it comes to using paid advertising and this cost can literally mean the difference between you making it online and just being another one of the 99% of hopefuls who never make a dime online.
I know of some internet marketers who have spent thousands of dollars advertising online and never ever break even or make a profit. I have been fortunate enough to have made a bit of money online using paid traffic, but like unlike most people who strive to get a head on the internet I do this full time, which means that I can dedicate all of my waking hours to making money online.
I have to say though that it has been a long a hard journey to say the least and you need to prepare yourself for the ups and downs of working online. Some months you can make a full years salary and then the very next you make nothing at all. Now why is this so hard? Well because you don’t know what’s around the corner. Anyway, I digress.
Just know this. When you get involved in paid advertising you will need to set aside at least $1000 just to learn and test. You need to have a mindset that this money is for research and development, a cost that most normal businesses absorb into it monthly expenses.
Paid advertising systems like Google Adwords, MSN Adcenter and Yahoo all come with a learning curve and depending on your experience in online marketing will determine the length of your learning curve.
Once you aquire the knowledge to become profitable in using the tools, there is a need to keep up to date with on going changes with each tool.
Don’t change your template if you still want to get traffic to your website.
I learnt a very valuable lesson today. You see I made a change to my website template and low and behold I was nowhere to be found in google . Well it wasn’t as bad as that I guess because my pages were still indexed in Google, however I lost all of my rankings. NO rankings no traffic! And that’s exactly what happened to me.
I was ranking consistently in Google for the keyword phrase “Adwords Anywhere” kwithout the quotes. After I changed the template – bang – no where to be found. Now I am happen to say that I have got my Google rankings back once again.
So, if you are thinking about changing your template just know that it might come with undesirable results at least in the short term.
Recently , my 8 year old son bought a PC game from TheWareHouse in Wellington. About a day later we returned back to Christchurch and full of excitement he started the process of installing the game only to find that the PC was too lame to run it.
When I looked at the specifications of the game to my amazement it needed a fully spec’ed PC with video card and duo core processors with at least 1.7 or 2.0 CPU grunt. Whilst this spec is not uncommon it ment that he could go any further with the installation.
I asked him where his receipt was and he replied that he “binned” it back in Wellington. I felt really sorry for him, and seeing the disappointment in his eyes prompted me to call TheWarehouse here in Christchurch to see if they could do anything for him. I had absolutely no expectations from them, because my son no longer had the receipt. Furthermore we had purchased the PC game in Wellington and not Christchurch, so I was expectations weren’t high.
I called TheWarehouse in Northlands mall and talked to a young lady named Mel and to my amazement she said that they would be able to give us a store credit on the PC game so long as I bought it into the shop as soon as possible. I explained about not having the receipt and having bought it in Wellington and she said that they would make an exception – (I know!). A little dumb founded and dis-believing I said we would be in the store within the next 15 – 20 minutes.
Now I’m the kind of guy that does’nt get too excited on what people tell me on the phone until the event actually transpires. So my 8 year son and I made the trip down to TheWareHouse in the Northlands mall and rocked up to the returns counter, to find that Mel wasn’t at the returns counter, but a fellow named Graham was. I immediately though, oh no, did I call the right store, maybe I dialed the Northwood branch instead.
Anyway, I though we are here now and let’s just go and see what happens.
So I told him the story and guess what?
He was expecting me….yep you got it, Mel had told him that I was coming in and approved the store credit.
All I have to say is “big massive props to Mel of TheWareHouse in Northlands mall”. You rock girl!!
There’s not too many places that impress me these days for service especially in Christchurch…don’t get me wrong I love Christchurch, that’s why I live here, but some service providers SUCK. However, this little experience impressed me enough to write about it, and that doesn’t happen unless I am urged to do it.
I’m planning on putting together a series of pay per view tutorials for people who might be interested in learning more about it.
Having said that, there is just some much information to cover, that I have no clue where to start really. But I always find it a lot easier to write on topics that have a direct interest for people.
